Mark 9:23

Packy East began his professional career as a lightweight boxer. He ended his career as one of the world’s best known ambassadors. What started in a ring ended on a stage.
Packy entered the ring in Cleveland, Ohio, one evening for a boxing match he intended to win. It was not to be. At the end of the second round he was knocked down and carried to his dressing room.
But that setback did not hinder him. It actually helped him and changed his career. He eventually became a comedian, traveled the world entertaining large audiences and was very generous with his time to visit American troops wherever they were stationed. He was not known as “Packy the Performer.” He changed his name and was known as Bob Hope, the comedian.
It’s not being knocked down that destroys us - it’s staying down. When we are down it is time to look up and to look out! We need to look up to God to see what He has in store for us and then look out into His world to see where He would have us serve Him.
Jesus said that “everything is possible if a person believes.” He did not mean that anything was possible with “positive thinking.” He did want us to know, however, that nothing is impossible for God to do in our lives if it is in keeping with His will for us.
Prayer: Help us, Father, to be open and alert to what is going on around us and discover what You would have us do to serve and honor You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Scripture for Today: Mark 9:23 “’If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.”
A group of mountain climbers was preparing to climb Mount Everest. As they stood at the foot of the mountain, a psychologist met with the group to interview them.
As the interview came to a conclusion, he asked one final question: “Will you make it to the top?”
Almost in unison, they responded, “I hope so.”
But Jim Whitaker said in a strong voice, “I will!” He was the only one from the group to make it to the top and the first American to reach the summit.
Doubt defeats but courage conquers.
Jesus summed up this idea in just a few words. On one occasion He seemed to be chiding the disciples when He said, “What do you mean, ‘If I can?’ Anything is possible if a person believes!”
These words of Jesus do not mean that we can have anything we want if we just apply positive thinking. He wants us to understand that anything is possible if we believe in Him as our Overcomer. Everything is possible if we put our faith in God, work to accomplish His will in His world, and leave the results up to Him. Prayer is not wishing for our wants. It is faith, trust, patience, and persistence to accomplish His will.
Prayer: We look to You, Lord, to answer our prayers as we pray in Your name, believing in Your Word to accomplish Your will. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Scripture for Today: Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

These words of Jesus do not mean that we can have anything we want if we just apply positive thinking. He wants us to understand that anything is possible if we believe, because everything is possible for God to accomplish through His disciples when we pray in a faith that believes. Prayer is not wishing for our wants. It is faith, trust, patience, and persistence at work wanting His will.

Prayer: We look to You, Lord, to answer our prayers as we pray in Your name, believing in Your Word to accomplish Your will. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Scripture for Today: Mark 9:23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”

It was a great day for fishing. The fish were biting as fast as the bait went into the water. A group of boys was watching the fishermen with great delight. But there was one who seemed a bit peculiar to them.

Every time he caught a big fish, he would measure it, and if it was more than ten inches in length, he would throw it back.

Finally, out of curiosity, one of the boys approached the man, and asked, “Why?”

“Because,” said the man, “all I have is a ten-inch frying pan to cook them in.”

Sometimes we limit our prayers because we have a “ten-inch frying pan” faith. We limit what God can do to us, through us and for us because our “pan” is too small.

The Bible promises that “Anything is possible if you have faith.” Faith can increase our ability and stability as we face the problems of life.

When we lack faith, God’s Word reminds us that “Faith comes from hearing and hearing from the Word of Christ.” The more we listen to and believe in the Word of God, the stronger our faith becomes.

Prayer: Father, increase my faith to match the problems and temptations of life that I face every day. Help me to accept and believe Your promises and to live my life according to Your teachings: in Jesus’ name. Amen.
